The Gap Year
Yesterday I ran a 10k race, and while running, I thought up of ideas for this blog post. At first, I thought that I could write about the race itself, what I've done so far with running, and why running is so important to me. But I feel like I have done enough of that "type" of writing for my secondary applications to medical school and I don't want to go back to that writing style.
Then I thought about writing about my two new hobbies: blogging (this would be boring) and playing the piano (equally boring). But it occurred to me that I haven't done these hobbies for more than a couple of days, so I wouldn't have very much material to write about.

Eventually when I was showering after my race (there is something to be said about good ideas being cultivated in the shower) I decided that I would write about what I've done so far with my gap year. I'm not sure what I consider to be the true start of my gap year--right after graduation or the August/September time period when school starts, but I want to include completing my first half-marathon, so my gap year from now on begins right after graduation. This is what I've done so far!
Gained full-time employment
Completed my first half-marathon
Cleaned my room, in its entirety (this is a huge feat)
Kept up with tradition
Hung out with friends and saw two whole movies IN ONE DAY!
Wrote a personal statement as why I want to be a doctor
Went to Panama, did good work
Got a traditional Panamanian tattoo (the temporary kind)
Went on a night cruise
Attended a leadership conference (boring)
Out of 20 applications, I received 19 secondaries and completed all of my secondaries on October 7th, 2011 at 8:58pm.
Visited friends and had a lot of fun
Ran a 10k race
Baked a lot
Started to play the piano again
Started blogging
After trying to insert cutesy pictures after each activity, I realize I've done a lot and kept busy with my gap year. I hope to continuously add to this list through out the year :)
Bye

New life, new blog?
Hi.
I feel weird starting a blog without an introduction, so I think one is in order.
I'm a recent college graduate who is taking a gap year before (hopefully) entering medical school. My life has changed a lot recently (moved back home with the parents, working a full-time job, etc.) and a lot of cool things are happening. I decided a few days ago that I wanted to start blogging as a means for me to remember the little things in life...so here I am.
Deciding to take a year off before applying to medical school was a big thing for me, so applying to medical school (now) is going to be a huge theme in my blog. This whole step in my life, where I'm trying to fulfill my greatest aspirations, is an incredibly unrewarding process. But I think that once I get to where I want to be, I'll want to remember this period of struggle.
As for the other aspects of my life, I love to bake (just made my first red velvet cake from scratch today!) and run (long-distance). Both of these hobbies are great stress relievers for me and I'm trying to learn how to become better at both. I am also greatly fond of television shows (but have a strong distaste for movies) of all kinds--I try not to discriminate. I love to look at fashion trends (can't technically purchase the fashion on my working wage, unfortunately) and love, love, love celebrity gossip.
I think that this was a pretty adequate summary of me, I'm really looking forward to updating this blog with stories from my life.
Cheers
